End the stigma…

“Travel isn’t always pretty. It isn’t always comfortable. Sometimes it hurts, it even breaks your heart. But that’s ok. The journey changes you. It should change you. It leaves marks on your memory, your consciousness, your heart, and your body. You take something with you… hopefully you leave something good behind” – Anthony Bourdain • He said it perfectly. This is what it means to travel through life. With suicides of two very well known and influential human beings just days apart, it really opens your eyes. People who have not experienced the tragedy of someone close suffer may be confused as to why this is happening. The numbers are growing people. This is a public health crisis. YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT DEMONS PEOPLE ARE FACING IN THEIR EVERYDAY LIVES. Be KIND always. Sadly I don’t think being kind is enough though. We have to seek to understand. We need to LISTEN not just hear. I am completely heartbroken by the deaths of Kate and Anthony, not only because they are gone, but now their families and ones closest to them have absorbed one of the most tragic pains possible. You are left with billions of questions. WE CAN STOP THIS. YOU have a voice, a heart, and you were designed to contribute something extremely important to this world. It is YOUR job to play your part. We can’t just sit back and watch more people die. Depression, anxiety, etc. are ILLNESSES. People are ILL and we as a society are so dismissive that individuals do not feel comfortable sharing that they are SUFFERING. As I reflect on everything over the past week I am realizing even more that now more than ever is the time to step up, speak up, and stop worrying about only being one person, one voice. Together we can make BIG changes. Let’s end the stigma. BE THE CHANGE. #endthestigma #bethechangeyouwanttoseeintheworld #ripkatespade #ripanthony #mentalhealthawareness #suicideprevention #endsuicidetoday
